August Lawn Garden To-Do List

These are the days when everything seems languid and still – except mosquitoes, of course – and the sun threatens to bake lawns, gardens, and gardeners alike. There is plenty to do in the garden in August, although it is best done in the early morning or

Hot Summer Days And Cooling Off With Some Water Fun – Frugal Fun Friday

If images of kids running through sprinklers drift through your mind in grainy home movie flashes, you’re feeling a little nostalgic right now. And, why not? The days of turning on the sprinklers and just playing in them for hours are a thing of the past. I guess we all know why… it is not frugal to just let a sprinkler run for hours to water the lawn, let alone just to play in. With money tight and possible water restrictions in certain rain-starved areas, the ability to just run through s

The Rosi Recipes #4: Japanese-Crusted Tofu with Hmong Accompaniments

It’s true, I’m back at home after a delicious little trip to Costa Rica. As soon as I sort through photos and notes, I’ll tell you about coffee production, gallo pinto, topes and toucans. But right now, it’s time to catch up on a few Rosi recipes and introduce you to a couple of dishes from a hot new cookbook (stay tuned for more on this one—soon), and to reacquaint you with one I’ve noted in the past . I’m really not sure how this tofu came about, but I had a square of it in the fridge a

I have a couple flower gardens in the front of my house, two more lining my backyard patio, and a nice sized vegetable garden in the back yard. Anyone with a garden knows the frustration of bugs, but up to today, I’ve been fairly lucky and haven’t had any issues, not even as much as a rabbit swiping my carrots. Unfortunately, when I went out to water my veggies this evening I found that my lucky streak has come to an end. M

Fine Estate And A Colorful Garden

by Thomas Fryd Two hundred years ago, we all like to believe, life was less hectic. A man could have a lot of time to read and think, to talk with friends and walk over the countryside, to learn the important news of the day and work in his garden. Gardeners have an obligation to create propaganda in our home communities for better use of shade trees. Our backyard trees, or the sidewalk trees the city is responsible for are a great part of America`s real wealth. A wiser choice of trees, a re
